Our history

Escal is the result of more than 40years of history… and several centuries of tradition.

1963

Setting up of Nutrana GmbH, dedicated to the distribution of French food specialties in Germany

1976

Beginning of Escal, unit to make prepared snails and distribution of this specialty

1979

Move in new facilities of 25 000m²

1987

Setting up of a workshop of shrimps and seafood processing

1992

Creation of a new seafood workshop and extension of storage capacity to 6000 pallets

1998

The 2nd generation takes the lead of the family-owned company

2007

Renewal of all the seafood production lines with a particular attention to the reduction of the energy and water consumption

2008

Escal obtains the organic certification and commercialize for the first-time organic shrimps under its own brand. The same year, Escal integrates Gourmet d’Alsace, company which produce craft frozen Tarte Flambée and frozen pastries

2009

Obtention of the MSC certification for a responsible fishing which respect the environment

2011

Renewal of the water management as part of the sustainable development of the company. Integration of Kauffer’s, producer of Flammekueches,hash brown potatoes and small puff pastries since 1982

2014/2015

Relooking of the full range of packaging

2018

Launch of the premium fish filets range, ASC or MSC certified

2019

Relooking of all the packaging of the organic range
